This tour includes Joseph Regenstein LibraryJoe and Rika Mansueto Library (high density storage) and the Special Collections Research Center. The Joseph Regenstein Library is home to over 4.5 million print volumes focusing on subjects in the humanities and social sciences, as well as business, divinity, and area studies. Mansueto’s design includes a high-density underground storage space for up to 3.5 million volume-equivalents. Users can access any holding within minutes of finding it online — an important advantage over off-site storage. The Special Collections Research Center is the principal repository for and steward of the Library's rare books, manuscripts, University Archives, and the Chicago Jazz Archives.

Built on four main pillars—Asian art, European art, modern art and design, and contemporary art—the collections of the University of Chicago's Smart Museum of Art include recognized masterworks as well as clusters of works that introduce important, though lesser known, areas of art history. Strengths across the collections include figurative art, works on paper, and small-scale sculpture, as well as materials that illuminate artists' working methods and contexts. This episodic, rather than encyclopedic, approach to collecting serves the core mission of teaching and research at the university, allowing for both deep explorations and unexpected comparisons across aesthetic approaches, eras, and cultures.
